RISE OF DHARMA

Author - Semanti Chakraborty

My Rating - 5/5

Thanks to the author for giving me the review copy of this wonderful book.

According to you, who is the most famous Mahabharata character?

Could it be Krishna? Or Arjuna? Well, maybe yes. But what if you saw the Mahabharatha through the eyes of a different character, like Yudhisthira for instance. Would your opinion change?

That is the authors aim and the book is written from the perspective of Yudhisthira, the eldest Pandava prince. This is the first book of the trilogy. It starts off with the young Pandava princes reaching Hasthinapura after the demise of their father. Yudhisthira is the calm, steady prince who handles all hurdles thrown at him successfully. Not letting Dharma die is the purpose of his life.

Though there are a lot of characters in The Mahabharatha and a lot of stories, the author has written the book in such a way that the stories are covered without deviating from the main character and that is the plus point while reading this book. Various points of the prince's life is highlighted, such as him being the only one to calm baby Ghatotkacha, always giving priority to his subjects though he has opposition from his own cousins, the understanding between Draupadi and him and many more. The book shows the journey, hardships and victories faced by Yudhisthira and his family and it ends with Krishna beheading Shishupala. Though matters seem to cool down Yudhisthira knows that there will always be something to prevent Dharma from raising and that he will never let Dharma down.

Overall, it is a wonderfully written book which is satisfying to read. It is recommended to all mythology lovers and everyone who likes Mahabharatha. Looking forward to book 2 of the series!
